This is a unique form of blue ice made possible by the weight of 4,900' of overlying glacial ice. The tremendous pressure created by the overlying ice and snow produces a unique form of crystals so dense they are entirely free of cracks and air bubbles. These crystal prisms absorb all color bands of light except the blue wave length which penetrates the ice but is then reflected back out. The Tracy Arm fjord in Alaska is home to the Sawyer Glacier. 4.5" W x 11.75" H
